2010

So far Malmesbury Singers has experienced an exciting year, starting off with our Easter concert, the Karl Jenkins’ Stabat Mater.  The piece was an absolute joy to sing and much appreciated by our audience; our exceptionally talented soloist Annie Jones deserved every acclaim for her inspirational rendition of the solo parts.

July 2010 saw the Malmesbury Singers drop it’s “requiem” style of performance in favour of Dj's, ball gowns and corsets with its “semi-staged” performance of The Merry Widow by Franz Lehar.  Nicki Heenan and Adrian Johnson took to the lead roles with both superb timing and choral excellence, yet the “Grisettes” still managed to upstage them to an extent as they enjoyed a “clap-along” audience and demand for an encore (or was that so that they would lift their skirts again?)

On 6th September we will resume rehearsals, this time for the very popular “Eilmer”, a specially home-grown composition by our very own “Hughes & Scanlon” team.  It is a slightly revised version of the original that was premiered in March 2001 and promises to be a very exciting concert, not to mention an inspirational term ahead.  We will be performing this twice - Saturday 11th December 2010 - matinee at 2pm and in the evening evening at 7.30pm in Malmesbury Abbey.

After our Christmas break, we look forward to resuming rehearsals in January 2011 in preparation for our grand Easter concert, when we will sing the ever popular Verdi Requiem.

New singers in all parts are always welcome – please use the “contact us” page if you are interested in joining the choir; however as ever the best thing is to turn up on the evening of our first rehearsal of the term and join in!
